Trauma / Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Fear is a natural reaction to frightening and dangerous situations. These fearful thoughts and feelings usually go away after the fearful situation ends. However, for some, the feelings of fear continue even after the situation goes away and this can develop into Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD can develop after a person experiences a traumatic event, such as sexual assault or physical abuse. People with PTSD re-experience their traumatic event, often as flashbacks or disturbing dreams, experience avoidance or numbing, which can lead to avoiding certain thoughts or places, and exhibit changes in their behavior, including increased aggression or hypervigilance.
I take an integrative approach to treating PTSD and work with you to design a unique treatment plan based on your individual needs. The treatment plan may include addressing your symptomatic behavior, learning relaxation and coping skills, redefining yourself within the context of your traumatic experience, working with you on processing your trauma, and increasing your sense of control over your life.
Please explore my website for more information about me and feel free to contact me if you would like to have a discussion about whether individual therapy is right for you.
